01
Why We Built It
Every group trip ends the same way: a chat full of payment screenshots, a spreadsheet nobody quite trusts, and one person staying up late working out who owes whom. The trip was fun. The reckoning afterwards was not.
SplitMitra exists to make that last step boring. You log who paid what as it happens, split it the way the group agreed, and when it’s time to square up, SplitMitra works out the fewest payments that bring everyone to zero.
02
Plans and Groups
Shared spending comes in two shapes, so SplitMitra has two kinds of shared space.
- Plans are for anything with dates: a trip, a wedding, a team offsite. A plan holds the itinerary, the members, the expenses and one settlement that closes it out.
- Groups are for spending that never really ends, like flatmates or a friends circle. There’s no end date, and you settle whenever it suits you.
Next to both sits a private personal log for your own spending, which only you see.
03
Split the Way Your Group Does
Real groups rarely split everything equally. Each expense can be split equally, by exact amounts or by percentage, and only the people who shared it pay for it. Whoever pays adds it straight away, so everyone sees the same balances all through the trip.
04
Settle Up Over UPI
When it’s time to settle, SplitMitra nets everyone’s balances into the smallest set of transfers. If you owe money, your own UPI app opens with the receiver and the exact amount filled in. If you’re owed, you can show a UPI QR code instead. The payment is recorded once the receiver confirms it.
Money never passes through SplitMitra: it moves in your UPI app, and SplitMitra keeps the record. Settlement is free on every tier. The UPI settle-up guide walks through it step by step.
05
AI That Helps, When You Want It
Two parts of SplitMitra use AI. It can draft a day-by-day itinerary from a plain-words description of your trip, which the group then edits together. And it can read a photographed receipt so the amount, date and merchant fill themselves in.
Both are optional. Splitting and settlement work fully without them. The AI itinerary guide shows what a good description looks like.
06
Free to Start
SplitMitra has a free tier that stays free, with no credit card needed. Paid tiers raise limits such as active plans, members and AI usage, and people you invite never need to pay to join. Prices are in rupees; see Pricing for current amounts and limits.

Start With Your Next Plan
The easiest way to try SplitMitra is on something real. Create a plan for your next trip or outing, invite the group and log expenses as they happen. Our use-case pages show how it works for trips, celebrations, flat bills and more, and the guides cover each part in detail.
